54th Annual Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival
SINCE 1961, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S FAVORITE OLD-TIME, BLUEGRASS, FOLK SONG, FOLK DANCING & CRAFTS FESTIVAL
The 54th Annual Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival. boasts live music on THREE STAGES plus The Dance Barn and Children’s area, set within Western movie sets and mountain locations, the festival includes over 100 premier instrumental and singing contests. Contestants at all levels and ages are encouraged to compete. Bring your instruments and ”sit in“ or “dance in” with jamming musicians!
For the first time ever, this year’s festival will feature a workshop in the art of Appalachian Percussive Dance. Teaching the class will be L.A.’s own Rebecca Stout. The classes are billed as “clogging” workshops, but don’t be fooled folks. Under this inconspicous moniker, Rebecca will actually be teaching her popular ASPS Flatfoot 101 class, developed from her apprenticeship with award winning instructor T. Paul Anderegg. Mr Anderegg recently who helped Rebecca to film and release her new instructional DVD, “Becky’s Barnyard Buckdance”, the first ever approved product in the “ASPS Learn” series from Appalachian Step Percussive Services.
Along with free workshops and musical performances all day, fine crafts and instruments, is a big bonus for parents: CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES in the Eucalyptus Grove which include organized jams, sing-a-longs, arts & crafts, musical performances from The Hollow Trees, and a kid’s flatfoot dance workshop with Rebecca Stout. Rebecca will also be singing and dancing live on the Railroad Stage at 2:30pm with Steve Werner in his “Friends Around the Fire” show featuring the legendary Brantley Kearns on fiddle.
