Please help support Folk/Roots Festival

In times like these, nothing soothes the soul and lifts the spirit more than music of the people. Music, dance, laughter, and sharing good times and good food with old friends and new, these are the joyful bonds that have always kept folks around the world together when it looked like everything else was falling apart. This is the “folk power” celebrated and perpetuated by FolkWorks. FolkWorks is presenting a day long Folk/Roots Festival on March 24, 2018, an opportunity to experience the culture of other countries…and our own; an Read More...

I’m Writing A Book!

I'm taking the summer to write a book which is a project that has long been a dream of mine. It is so great to be able to take some time off and give all of my attention and energy to it. The book will be a companion to my instructional DVD, "Becky's Barnyard Buckdance", featuring biographies and fun facts about historically significant Appalachian percussive dancers, many of whom I talk about in my teaching.  The book will feature artwork from local folk artists and will hopefully be something you Read More...

Review: San Diego Troubadour

http://sandiegotroubadour.com/2017/03/11366/ When I first met Rebecca Stout in Pasadena she was covered in dirt standing between a goat and chicken, and she had a purple ribbon pinned to her dress. It was a May evening in 2014 and my old-time group, the G Burns Jug Band, had just arrived for a gig at the Urban Homestead, a one-acre farming operation (complete with livestock), and a sometimes concert venue improbably tucked away in the middle of the Los Angeles megalopolis. The legendary Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest had wrapped up earlier Read More...
